Campus Living Villages - Murdoch Village
Campus Living Villages (CLV) is a global student accommodation provider specialising in the development, management and operation of purpose-built living communities for university students. Operating across Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, CLV offers supported, all-inclusive residential experiences that blend convenience, community and practical living at scale. Murdoch Village - Murdoch University Village, operated by Campus Living Villages, is a vibrant on-campus student residence in Perth, Western Australia, designed to support Murdoch University students with fully-furnished accommodation, social and study spaces, and a range of communal amenities just steps from academic facilities. The Village houses around 800+ students in a supportive living-and-learning community that fosters connection, wellbeing and engagement throughout the academic year.

The Challenge:
Moving into student accommodation is a significant transition, and research consistently shows it's a vulnerable period for wellbeing. Residents often experience what researchers describe as a "betwixt space," where established relationships and routines are disrupted just as they're trying to build new ones, and loneliness and social isolation are commonly felt in the first few months. The same research points to the importance of accommodation-based pastoral support in helping residents settle, connect, and build community.
For Campus Living Villages and Murdoch Village, the challenge was making sure residents had that support built into their everyday experience from day one, in a way that:
- Complemented the services Murdoch Village already offered, such as its resident app, rather than duplicating or competing with them
- Reached residents consistently throughout the year, not just during welcome week
- Helped residents build genuine habits around wellbeing and connection, not just awareness of the support available
This is what shaped the approach: blending the Semester success and wellbeing framework directly with Murdoch Village's existing services, backed by a keynote, ongoing marketing support, and an in-person presence at wellbeing events throughout the year.
Semester Student Planner worked with Campus Living Villages to build a custom resident planner for Murdoch Village that blends the Semester success and wellbeing framework with a heavily customised layer connecting residents to Murdoch Village's own services, including its resident app and other existing tools. The result is a planner that feels like a natural extension of the CLV resident experience rather than a separate, one off add-on.
Alongside the planner, the partnership included:
- A keynote delivered at the beginning of the year to set the tone for residents from day one
- Eight weeks of marketing email copy, used by CLV to build engagement with the planners during the critical early weeks
- Ongoing in-person support at resident wellbeing events throughout the year
What We Delivered:
- Number of planners produced: 200 custom resident planners
- Content: Semester success and wellbeing framework, customised to integrate with Murdoch Village's resident app and existing services
- Keynote included: Yes, delivered at the start of the year
- Marketing support: 8 weeks of email copy to drive planner engagement during launch
- Ongoing support: In-person presence at resident wellbeing events throughout the year
The planner became a central tool within the residential experience, supporting students to better manage their time, reflect on goals, and engage more meaningfully with wellbeing and development initiatives. Staff were able to anchor events and conversations around a shared framework, increasing consistency and student participation.

The Result
By embedding the planner into residential life, Campus Living Villages created a scalable, repeatable approach to supporting student wellbeing and engagement. The programme strengthened student connection, reinforced positive habits, and enhanced the overall first-year experience — while providing a practical, cost-effective tool that could be rolled out to future cohorts.
